It’s well known that diversity in the workplace leads to more innovation. Women are under-represented in the STEMM sector (science, technology, engineering, mathematics and manufacturing) . Hutt City Council and Rotary Hutt City want to change that.
Planning for Innovative Young Minds (IYM) 2018 is underway. Your club President and Secretary have already received an email along with a report on IYM 2017.
IYM is a hands-on experiential week, where female students who have an interest in STEMM subjects get a taste of the numerous career pathways open to them. Students visit tertiary institutions, Crown Research Institutes and technology businesses and get involved in activities prepared by their hosts.

Rotary Hutt City have once again partnered with Hutt City Council to deliver IYM 2018 and we have several businesses and tertiary institutions who have already committed to hosting students next year.
A big thank you to the clubs that supported IYM 2017. Hopefully, by now you would have heard from your students about their experience.
Whilst this programme was designed for students in the greater Wellington region, we received and accepted some applicants from the wider District 9940.
Students get to hear from inspirational women during the course of the week. We get asked “why only female students?” This is because we are trying to address the gap of under representation of women in the science and technology sector.
How can you help? To make the process of matching schools, students and clubs smoother, we are asking clubs to let us know what schools they support and if they would like to sponsor students from that school for IYM 2018. You can email sue@avison.co.nz with this information.
