September is basic education and literacy month. Worldwide our Rotary Foundation invests $10.99m (USD) a year supporting education. We know from our partnership with the UN that 775 million people over 15 are illiterate. We know too that the education of girls and young women is a major key to economic development for whole communities. The Rotary Foundation capital investments are the engine that helps fund our basic education initiatives. Thank you for your support. Closer to home, clubs working in schools, on literacy projects and with refugee communities all support Rotary’s literacy focus.

Succession Planning for Club Presidents through to 2021
Many clubs have their train of President, President Elect and President Nominee in place already. Congratulations. Several clubs will have their train in place over the next 2-3 Board meetings. Great. All clubs are encouraged to have their trains in place by the end of October 2019, as a top priority. Recycling of previous presidents is common, necessary and encouraged.
Membership as a Creative Activity
Clubs are challenged by membership targets. Equally as important is the quality of the Rotary experience for every member. Quality Rotary experiences are the foundation of growth. Try supporting these conversations at Board level.
How is the Rotary Interact experience going in your area? Is there a place to grow the Rotaract experience in your area? Is there a place for Rotakids in your area? What is a Rotary Community Corps? Do you have one in your area? And what categories of membership options do you have in your club? There are plenty of opportunities to grow the quality of the Rotary experience, at various age groups, within our District.
Be creative, have a goal and plan to grow the quality of the Rotary experience throughout your clubs and clusters this year. Want to know more?Start by talking to your Assistant Governor.
District Conference 15 - 17 May, 2020
To date I have observed that every club we have visited has a distinct character. Every club’s character fits well with our 2019-20 conference theme.

Our Co-chairs, PDG Howard Tong and Suzanne Manning, along with their planning team are well on the way to integrating our theme into an interactive and engaging programme of events. Our round tables format will encourage constructive sharing of ideas and the productive generation of new solutions.
