With nearly all of our Clubs completing their change over this past month, I have enjoyed reading and reviewing all the amazing accomplishments that the Clubs in our District have completed. Changeover is a fantastic time to reflect and acknowledge the past year’s achievements. It is also an exciting time for our new 2017/18 Presidents and Boards to continuing the good work done by previous teams. I encourage Presidents to spend time working with their new boards to develop plans that will help their Club to grow, these plans need to be communicated and understood with all Club members. It doesn’t have to be a 10 page document, but Clubs need a simple plan to encourage growth and sustainability. We also need to be encouraging and guiding personal development in Clubs so that future leaders are prepared and ready to help grow Rotary in coming years. Does your Club have a vision?
There has never been a better time in Rotary to make and control the change in your Club. With the recent Council of Legislation changes being approved, Clubs now have great opportunities to really make a difference. For this great organisation to become stronger and more relevant, we need not just lip service, but actual systemic change.  Be open to new ideas, genuinely consider options for becoming a more flexible Club, look at your meeting times and venues and who knows, others might want to join you. You may even consider supporting a new Satellite Club. A big shout out to ADG Mel Cook and President Barrie from Stratford Club, for the getting the most recent Satellite Club in our District launched.
Dynamic Clubs are growing Clubs, an engaged membership is vital. I often think we put a lot of pressure on ourselves to attract new members, the same time we take our eye off the ball and allow our current membership to wobble. An engaged membership has a say, they are heard, they are busy in Rotary and they like having fun. The Club is awake and aware. Most importantly, they have knowledge of their communities, Rotary in New Zealand and Rotary Internationally. The Club is working with and communicating well with their Assistant Governor looking for cross cluster opportunities.
PR and Public Image are a high priority, we need to be telling a better story on all the great things our Clubs do, start talking about the benefits of belonging to Rotary. I am sure you will agree, the current social media campaign that has been running on Facebook for the past few months is very clever and well targeted at potential Rotarians. Don’t forget to share these posts.
Over the next few months, workshops are being held in our District, Rotary Club Development and Membership and Rotary Leadership Institute – Rotary Learning and Information 101 workshops. Information is available on the District website here. Both are good opportunities to come along and learn more about Rotary and how we can be become bigger and better.
Please consider attending the 2nd National Membership Seminar to be held in Christchurch 28th October 2017. This seminar will provide all the latest information on membership resources and tools to make Rotary in our District 9940 even stronger.
Over the next few weeks we will be strengthening the Club Development Committee across the District and will communicate contact names and numbers to assist you in making Rotary Go Wild
