Russian Peace Exchange to Visit South Texas District 5930

South Texas District 5930 will be hosting a Peace Exchange group from Russia for two weeks. The group is part of a Peace Friendship Exchange under the auspices and guidelines of the Russia-United States lntercountry Committee (ICC). The hosting Rotary districts are South Texas 5930 and District 5020 in Washington State with an assist from the Houston District 5890.
 
A signature event in Rockport that will highlight the primary purpose is the planting of a Peace Pole at the Aransas Pathways Pavilion area.

Sunday, October 6

Arrival in Houston
  • Welcoming Committee at Airport (provide water and meal, as appropriate) Travel to Corpus Christi

  • Guests on late flights will spend the night in Houston and arrive in Corpus Christi Monday morning.

Monday, October 7

  • 1:30 Enjoy Corpus Christi Tours, LLC ($28/person) (maximum 13 people) (tour specifically designed for the delegation with an emphasis on history & art)

Tuesday, October 8 (Rockport – Fulton)

  • Travel via Port Aransas Ferry—general bird watching and sightseeing
  • Lunch at Paradise Key sponsored by Rockport Rotary Club
  • Rockport Maritime Museum Rockport-Fulton Visitors Center Shopping on Austin Street
  • 4:30 Peace Pole Installation and Dedication Ceremony at Aransas County Pathways Pavilion at Tule Creek in Rockport
  • Tour of rebuilding projects at Fulton Harbor (post Hurricane Harvey)
  • BBQ Dinner at Rockport Beach Park hosted by Rockport Rotary Club

Wednesday, October 9

  • Breakfast with host and/or meet for coffee
  • North Beach (U.S.S. Lexington, Texas State Aquarium, beach)
  • Lunch at Hester’s at the Art Museum of South Texas, and museum tour
  • Other downtown activities including boat tour of marina, if available
  • Late afternoon Art Center tour (and farmers market)
  • 7:30 Dinner at Oso Grill and Pier—Open Mic night (music); fishing pier

Thursday, October 10

  • Federal Courthouse (arrive between 8:15 and 8:30) for civil hearings and criminal sentencing in the courtroom of United States District Judge Nelva Gonzales Ramos; meet-and-greet with Judge and others (must have ID) (Depart at 11:15-11:30)
