The Southside Corpus Christi Rotary Club “Ramp Champs” donated their time and materials on Saturday morning November 1st to build a wheelchair ramp for Ms. Amalia Martinez at 4410 Green Grove Drive, Corpus Christi, TX who recently left rehab and needed a ramp at her house upon her return. Ms. Martinez was very independent prior to her injury and this ramp gives her back the quality of life that she was accustomed to. She was extremely appreciative of the Southside Rotarians building the ramp for her and tested it out after it was finished.

The building materials were purchased through funds raised from Southside Rotary club fundraisers and the labor was done by Southside Rotary members at no cost to the recipient.

The main goal of the “Ramp Champs” is to give better mobility to a member of the Corpus Christi community and in turn providing a better quality of life through the Southside Rotary Ramp Project.

Club members build approximately six to eight ramps per year with the program now in its fourteenth year. To learn more about Southside Rotary or to join our club please find us on Facebook or at our website http://www.southsidecorpuschristi.rotary5930.org.

BACKGROUND:
In 2001 Southside Rotary began their ramp project to help those in need who could not otherwise afford a wheelchair ramp. The “Ramp Champs” as they are called learned ramp building from the St. Mark’s Episcopal Church ramp builders. Continuous club fundraisers help sustain the project. Club members and Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Rotaract students, in conjunction with the Coastal Bend Center for Independent Living, build approximately six to eight ramps per year.
