Fellow Club Members:

Fall is here, the kids are back in school and the Rotary year is definitely heating up.  District grants were awarded last month.  We had 16 grant proposals submitted and while we did not have enough funds to fully fund all the requests, we did award funds to all 16 projects.  Thank you to those clubs that worked to put the proposals together and for the gifts that they are giving to their communities and the world.

Lots going on in October!!  The big news is the two seminars that will be happening on October 17 and October 24.  We will be covering, The Rotary Foundation, Membership and Rotary's Public Image.   These seminars will also be an opportunity to have club members certified in grants training.  (For a club to be eligible to receive a District or Global Grant, they must have at least 2 members attend the certification training ANNUALLY.)  At Kingsville on the 17th, our guest speaker will be the Texas Regional Rotary Coordinator, David Norris.  On the 24th in McAllen, our guest speaker will be the Vice President of Rotary International and Director, Greg Podd.  We are so pleased that Greg could find time in his busy schedule to be able to join us and I would encourage as many members as possible to attend the McAllen seminar to welcome Greg to South Texas.  Both of these gentlemen are dynamic speakers and I encourage all of you to attend either seminar to find out the latest news from Rotary International.  Registration is open on the District Website for these events.

October 24 is also World Polio Day.  We are asking Clubs to come up with a project to raise funds for Polio Plus on that day.  Several Clubs already have events scheduled prior to that day but  are planning on attending the seminar in McAllen to present the funds raised for Polio Plus at that event.  If you attend the seminar on Oct. 24th in McAllen, your registration fee includes an "End Polio Now" t-shirt.

Note to Treasurers!!  November 15 is quickly approaching.  The IRS requires that all clubs in the US file an annual information return.  November 15 is the deadline.  For more information check with irs.gov.

I am still making club visits this month including Brownsville, Kingsville, Falfurrias, Harlingen, Taft, Sinton and Corpus Christi Sunrise.  I enjoy meeting all the Rotarians and am looking forward to meeting with these areas this month.

Save the date!  April 22-24, 2016 will be the District Assembly and the District Conference.  Laredo is excited that we are coming and are planning great things for our visit.  Think FIESTA!!

Happy October,
Betty W. Frantum
District Governor 2015-2016
