The family of Rotary Clubs working together...

Rotary Cottage  at Calvary was provided by Belconnen Rotary in 1996 and extended in 2007 with  assistance from Rotary Clubs of Ginninderra, Canberra City, Hall and Woden  from funds raised at the Trash & Treasure weekly markets at Jamison Centre. PDG Bob Greeney (working on the column above) described this joint effort by four northside Clubs as “the family of Rotary clubs working together” as all grew out of the initial Rotary Club of Belconnen.

President Bill (Wombat) Wattam of Ginninderra  Club (above centre) sees this as one of many projects that the four clubs, plus RC Hall, have been contributing to in recent years – including Karinya House, Powerchair Football and Christmas hampers. He is very keen to extend this cooperation to overseas projects such as Rotary Against Malaria. The Cottage provides six rooms accommodation for families of patients in Calvary Hospital, each with separate bathroom. It is very popular with families from the towns and rural areas surrounding the ACT, extending to Albury and the NSW South Coast.

Bernie the Builder was keen to acknowledge the donations and support provided by building suppliers.  Brian Corkhill of CSG provided concreting materials, Hertzog Steel the reinforcing, Stratco the shelter at “mates rates” and Bunnings materials at discount prices.
