Message from Mary Brell:

Fellow Rotarians,

As you may be aware, I have been leading various groups to Nepal for the past 8-9 years with a focus on:

  • Teaching
  • Health
  • Building
  • and Schoolies

In October 2018, I hope to lead the first ever Agriculture group to Maidi in the Dhading District in Nepal. This is the District that I have been working in and have developed a very close relationship with the people of this area.

For many years, I have worked with both Buddhiman Shrestha (local leader and teacher) and Prakash Aryal (Hike Himalaya Adventure) from the village of Maidi. It is because of the work and liaison with these two significant people that our projects have been so successful.

It is now time to look at the agricultural practices in the villages and to explore if some agriculturally-minded people from Australia could travel to these areas, listen to the local people and then work with the local people to improve and enhance the current practices so that:

1.      More effective use of the land throughout the year could occur.

2.      Water storages could be examined and how this could be improved.

3.      Nutrition levels could be improved by growing different crops.

4.      Other aspects of agriculture could be enhanced.

I’m looking for people who are agricultural specialists, people working in the agriculture industry or people who would be interested in this field of study, to travel to Nepal with me to begin this exciting project.

The project will be a RAWCS project developing the community.
