It was a chance meeting near Dungog at a BMW Motorbike Rally where two District 9700 identities happen to notice each other and said "I know You"...It was President Doug Kinlyside of Bathurst Daybreakand DG George Weston of Leeton.  It seems that they both had a deep interest in building goodwill through BMW Motorcycles.

RYDA 2018  On February 20th, Carol and I attended RYDA held at Yanco Ag Institute and listened to a strong message to the students about staying safe and alive conducted by two Highway Patrol Police stationed at Griffith. It was an amazing experience that hopefully saves young lives -- thank you to the RYDA Committee.

A few words from DG George:

Our Youth Programs in Rotary are a vital and rewarding experience for the youth who attend. It is a great passion of mine. This month I would like to highlight two of our youth programs:

  1. Youth Exchange
On the 4th February in Young an enriching rebound day was held by the district committee as we welcomed home our returning exchange students who gave us a review of their exchange year to the committee, parents and attending Rotarians. What amazing opportunities and experiences were had by the students! Also, their increased maturity was clearly evident. This really is a life changing experience for them. If you know of anyone who may be interested in this programme, contact the District Youth Exchange Committee. They will soon be asking for applications for next year. After their reviews, our inbounds had the opportunity to spend some time together. Thanks to the D9700 Committee for a wonderful day and for keeping Youth Exchange such a vital part of our district.

  1. RYLA
Another Youth/ Vocational program is RYLA which is being held at CSU in Orange and starts on 16th April 2018. Information from John Willing Email john.willing@bigpond.com  Thank you to the RYLA committee for running this enriching program for Youth Leaders.

Two other programmes worth mentioning:

Peace Communities
We celebrated this month Rotary’s Birthday on 23rd February and the 25th anniversary of Rotary Peace Communities  in Wagga Wagga, also on the 23rd. Carol and I had a great weekend and my thanks to Deidre and Phillip Tome and the wonderful committee for making this celebration happen.

PETS/Assembly
On an important note, DGE John Glassford is holding his PETS and Assembly on 3rd/4th March in Young. It is a requirement that the Presidents-Elect and their board attend for a successful year as planning is so important.

District Governor 2020/21 District 9705
We are looking for a DGNN for our new District 9705 2020/2021. What a great opportunity to be the very first District Governor. Please let me know if you know of anyone who could be interested.

Our District Clubs are all busy working hard after the Christmas and New Year break and I take this opportunity to sincerely thank you all for your contribution to Rotary and for making a difference.

Best wishes,
George
