Vocational Service Background
Rotary Districts 9705 and 5610,after COVID delayed the project for 3 years, sent the Wiradjuri GSE team in Sept 2023. The AUS team is made up of Wiradjuri Australians and the US team will comprise First Nations Native American Indians.
The second Object of Rotary is: To encourage and foster high ethical standards in business and professions, to recognise the worthiness of all useful occupations and the dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society.
The Vocational Service portfolio provides the Club and individual Rotarians the opportunity to be community leaders by pursuing high ethical standards and supporting programs that promote excellence in various vocations. Clubs should encourage members to improve their vocational talents and adhere to the 4-Way Test.
Paul Harris wrote: "Each Rotarian is a connecting link between the idealism of Rotary and their trade or profession”.
October is Vocational Service Month
The planning of vocational activities rests with the Club Service Director who should appoint a Vocational Service Chair.
To assist in the planning of the Club‘s vocational activities for the year prepare a calendar detailing vocational activities for each month of the Rotary year. The bulk of the activities are low cost and do not require a great deal of labour or organisation; some ideas include a Pride of Workmanship program, public speaking competitions within the Club and community; also Vocational and professional networking visits to: local businesses, water treatment plants, council works depots, libraries, Police and Fire Stations. Many Clubs hold information on vocational activities such as workplace mock interviews for students and work experience opportunities for school leavers.

The Wiradjuri- Oceti Sakowin Group Study/Cultural Exchange
The GSE program is a unique cultural and vocational exchange opportunity for business and professional men and women in their initial years of professional life. The program is designed to develop professional and leadership skills among young adults so that they can address the needs of their communities and an increasingly global workplace. GSE offers Rotarians the opportunity to participate in sending, receiving, and sharing educational experiences of study teams that will enhance Rotary’s worldwide mission. GSE participants follow an extensive and rigorous program of international travel and team activities.
A Wiradjuri - Oceti Sakowin Exchange

The AUS team is made up of Wiradjuri Australians and the US team will comprise First Nations Native American Indians.The outgoing Wiradjuri team led by Rotarian PP Lynette Bullen, a proud Wiradjuri woman in the RC of Orange Daybreak, left Australia on 9 September 2023.
The incoming team to Australia will consist of Native American Indians (from the South Dakota tribes of the Lakota Sioux) selected and supported by Rotary District 5610 (South Dakota, United States of America). The return exchange team is likely to visit in Sept/Oct 2024
CoViD-19 Impact:
The pandemic postponed the exchange (scheduled for April 2020) til Sept 2023.
