Last November the Rotary Clubs of Port Hardy & Port McNeill teamed up again for their biggest fundraiser of the year, the 32nd annual rotary radio auction.

This year they raised over $55,000, with a large portion of the money raised goes back into North Island community projects!

Q: What are some of the community projects?
A: Some of the community projects would be community playgrounds, bus shelters, hiking trails upgrades, gazebos and shelters, skate park contribution, kids fishing dock, just to name a few.

Q: Who donated to the auction?
A: Individual community members, clubs and businesses donate the items for our auction.

Q: What are some of the neat things about how the auction is run?
A: It truly is amazing to see how smooth the auction runs after being held for 32 years! All Rotary members are on board and volunteer their time collecting the more than 400 items, setting up the auction, receiving the phone bids, taking the floor bids, the finance department and of course the auctioneers! We also involve our Rotary youth and our exchange student and they are in charge of the live video feed so the bidders can see each of the items as they come up for auction. It's a great community event! Especially to be able to raise over $50,000 in one weekend!

Q: How many people run the auction?
A: Members from both Port Hardy and Port McNeill volunteer their time.

Q: How many days and which days did the auction take place over?
A: The auction pre-bids begin on the Friday afternoon and the live radio auction itself is 11 until 4 PM Saturday and Sunday.

Q: Is there someone in the clubs that ran the auction (in case other clubs want to connect with someone)
A: If there were any Rotarians interested to know the details as to how the auction runs behind the scenes, as an idea for your club you could contact our treasurer Dale Dorward at macandal@telus.net
