Have you ever asked “How can we accomplish ______ within our Rotary Club?”  Have you ever wanted to pick the brains of other Rotarians who have “been there, done that”?  A year ago I received permission to create a Facebook “Group” page for District 5020.  While we already have a Facebook “Fan Page” the goals for the new group page were different.    The original 5020 Facebook fan page at https://www.facebook.com/Rotary.5020/ is a great way to push out information.  Often these type of FB pages are designed for public consumption of messaging the admins like to market.  A great tool. Anyone can like and join.

A group page is designed for “inward” communication amongst each other. The site is a “Closed” group, open to Rotarians and “Family of Rotary” members such as youth exchange, partners of Rotarians, past and future members and others.  Anyone in the group can post and respond.  The group is of around 800 District 5020 Rotarians sharing ideas with each other. I find it helpful because don’t have to reinvent the wheel.  Ideas have been tried over the years and if you ask you may get great answers to your questions right here.    It is a great place to share, to brag,  even complain.

Recently member of Rotary Club of Strathcona Sunrise Past District Governor (District 7070) Richard Clarke attended the Council of Legislation in Evanston, home of Rotary International’s headquarters.   Don’t be embarrassed if you know little about this important Rotary occurrence, it’s not uncommon.   Richard, however shared his experience and even explained what the COL is all about over a series of posts.  It was wonderful to hear about his time there and how things unfolded and the impact it could have on Rotarians around the world.     When Rotarians brag about their fundraisers or special events or new ideas – it often inspires others, so don’t hold back. A few months ago I was looking for a good image that showed where in the world District 5020 is relative to the continent, a pic that would show even someone in South Africa where we are. Soon Nicole Clark of Rotary Club of Sequim Sunrise chimed in and got to work. A few days later I have this masterpiece I used for the Rotary Friendship Exchange website and further RFE use.
