Dear Rotarians of District 5170,

The month of August, our Membership designated month, was a very august month for D5170. We started with a wonderful Membership Seminar planned and executed by our Membership Chairs Camilla Boolootian and Geeta Kadambi. Click HERE for the video of our phenomenal speaker, Tom Gump and the informative slideshows from the presenters.

Many clubs added several new members with East Palo Alto Bayshore Rotary Club adding eight new Rotarians. I had the honor of inducting eleven new members, including three members who joined last year, during my visit to this very vibrant club. The big clubs of Oakland #3 and San Jose are also growing steadily. I also visited Mission San Jose and Mountain View clubs. I am driving the length and width of our District. This has been a very enlightening experience visiting the various clubs with very talented and generous Rotarians.

All club projects are drawing attention to the good work done by Rotary in the local and global communities. This is a good reminder to all our clubs to plan for project booths at the Avenues of Service to be held on October 15 at Mission College in Santa Clara. Co-Chairs Herb Ritter and DGN Jill Duerig are putting together a great event with the help of a wonderful committee of our District AOS Chairs. Save the date 10/15/2022 and be on the lookout for the AOS registration flyer.

I also attended two very energetic Interact meetings. It reinforced my belief that our future is in safe hands with this wonderful young generation of future Rotarians. They have compassion, consideration, and care for others. Now add flawless execution of events with high enthusiasm, you get the perfect recipe for good projects in the community. Please support these wonderful ambassadors for Rotary when they visit your clubs to promote their projects. Please see their update below.

Update from Interact District Council:
After a strong 2021-2022 year, Interact District 5170 is continuing to transition back from Covid-19 with the new Daybreak District Council! To start the year off right, Daybreak DC hosted the New Presidents Meeting on Sunday, August 28th and will hold the Fall Leadership Conference (FLC) on Sunday, October 9th. Our passionate Interactors may need some assistance covering the costs of the FLC. In the 2022-2023 year, Daybreak DC hopes to use the funds from these events to combat food insecurity in our local communities and provide easier access to clean water internationally.

I hope to see many of you on Zoom at the next Leadership Meeting on September 7th - please click on the link below to register.

Thank you all for what you do to make our world better!

Salud, Shubkamnayen, Slainte!
