At this past Rotary District 5170 Leadership Meeting on September 11, we had the pleasure of speaking about Rotaract and the positive impact it has on each and every one of us. Lieutenant Governor Susan Pham and Rotaract Club of Silicon Valley President Alejandro Rivera III, and I enjoyed sharing our personal stories with fellow Rotarians. A huge thank you to all who helped in planning and executing the meeting, especially Youth Services Chair Chris Miller, Chief of Staff Tina Orsi-Hartigan, and our Rotary District Governor Ramesh Hariharan!

This month is one of our favorite times of the year for our Rotaractors, as it is Basic Education and Literacy Month!

September is the time to kick the school year off right by making the most of our children’s first month back at school. This is just the beginning of exploring a whole new world of knowledge for students, and we want to continue in providing resources and assistance.

In this month’s edition, we are taking a look back at education and literacy in Rotaract throughout this year, while looking to the future to strengthen quality education and lifelong learning opportunities for our community.

Rotaract clubs across the district of 5170 take this spotlight on international literacy and education seriously:
  • This summer, District 5170 Rotaractors chaperoned with the Rotary Club of Hayward at their Back-to-School Child Spree, where 100 children received clothing and supplies needed for school.
  • Members of the Rotaract Club of Greater Fremont volunteered at the Rotary Area 3 Packing Books for Uganda event in March, where over 20 moving boxes of children's books were shipped out to elementary schools.

Rotarians, thank you for your support through these exciting events, and we hope to partner more in the future on not just educational improvement service projects, but all that our community needs!
