I am part of a group of Copacabana (NSW) residents who are trying to get a men's shed up in our town. The aim is to provide something to do for men who feel lonely, nervous, depressed, are handicapped, at a loose end, get on their wife's nerves, and sometimes (rarely, thank goodness) commit suicide. Their value has been recognised to the extent that there are now over 1200 men's sheds in Australia, and we want one!
I am part of a group of Copacabana (NSW) residents who are trying to get a men's shed up in our town. The aim is to provide something to do for men who feel lonely, nervous, depressed, are handicapped, at a loose end, get on their wife's nerves, and sometimes (rarely, thank goodness) commit suicide. Their value has been recognised to the extent that there are now over 1200 men's sheds in Australia, and we want one!
Our problem is that it costs money to build one. We have obtained development approval and a grant from the New South Wales government that would enable us to start building the shed. But it is not enough to satisfy our local council. Not only did they cancel a $60,000 grant when they ran into financial difficulties, but they are refusing to give us permission to even start building the shed until we have sufficient funds to cover the whole building project.
So we have started a crowd-funding campaign to raise the money we need to finish building the shed, about $110,000.
