ATTENTION CURRENT CLUB PRESIDENTS and/or SECRETARIES!
Your club's 2014-15 Club Officer Information is DUE NOW to both District 5650 and Rotary International.  The District and RI collect different information.  Please log-in to "My Rotary" at www.rotary.org to update your club officers for RI.  For the district, you can log-in to this site (or your club's ClubRunner site) to update officer information.  For the district, please include Name, Mailing Address, Phone and E-mail.  If you cannot log-in to this site, you can submit this PDF or Excel form to Erin Oberhauser, exec@rotarydistrict5650.org.
2014-15 Grants Management Seminars
Each year, the Rotary Foundation and Rotary District 5650 require clubs to have at least two (2) members participate in a Grants Management Seminar prior to applying for District or Global Grants*.
District 5650 will offer three (3) seminars with the first being FEBRUARY 15, 2014 in Ashland, NE at the Carol Joy Holling Retreat Center. This seminar is immediately following the District Team Training Seminar for 2014-15 District Committee Chairs and Assistant Governors. You can REGISTER NOW for the Grants Management Seminar by clicking here or by clicking the event on the right side of the page. The second seminar will be held April 5th, location TBD. The third seminar will be held in conjunction with the District Conference in Lincoln on May 2, 2014. We will notify you when registration has opened for the 2nd and 3rd seminars.

* Attendance at Grants Management Seminars is an ANNUAL REQUIREMENT. Attendance at a 2013-14 Grants Management Seminar does not qualify for 2014-15 Grant applications.
2014-15 Presidents and Secretaries Training
Thank you to the 2014-15 Club Presidents and Secretaries for stepping up and committing to Rotary and to your club by agreeing to serve as your club president or secretary. You are key people in furthering the mission of Rotary in your community, district and the world.

To that end I ask you to set aside the time for training that will be focused on just you. In some cases you may have served in this position before. But, with all the changes that are occurring within our organization and the new areas that RI is focusing upon, I assure you that it is important to attend this session. Mark you calendars today!
Where: Scott Conference Center
6450 Pine Street
Omaha, NE
(on the UNO south campus)

When: Saturday March 15, 2014

Additional club members are welcome to attend, the fee is then $35.00 per additional attendee. (Only the 2014-15 Presidents' and Secretarys' registration fees are included in the dues.)

I'm very excited to see how we can all work together to improve and grow District 5650 in 2014-15.  See you all on March 15.

An investment in your members’ attendance at RLI is an investment in your Club.  When members are more engaged and knowledgeable about Rotary, they are happier and more likely to stay and be active.

It is time to start registering for the March 22, 2014 Rotary Leadership Institute session which will be held  in Omaha.  At our last session we were proud to have 5 more Rotarians from around Rotary District 5650 graduate.  They were required to complete all three parts of RLI to graduate.  Congratulations to Katie, Amber, Jeff, Terri and Elise.

Rotarians participating in RLI have the opportunity to work with Rotarians from a number of other clubs, sharing ideas and developing concepts to take to their clubs and put into place to strengthen the clubs and their programs.

Throughout the history of Heartland U.S.A. Division of Rotary Leadership Institute, we have seen participants from 32 different Rotary Clubs in the area.  These clubs are benefiting from the inspiration of these Rotarians and their leadership.

Rotary Leadership Institute sessions incorporate facilitation methods that are heavy on activity-based learning.  The full course is a series of three full day parts (Parts I, II, III).  Those completing each part are eligible for the next part.  Examples of course topics include The Rotary Foundation, Membership Development and Retention, Leadership Characteristics, Creating Hands-on Service Projects, Vocational Service and International Service.

"I have attended a lot of Leadership programs
and this is one of the best I have seen."
--RLI Part I Participant

RLI can benefit ANY MEMBER of Rotary – not just those moving into (or already in) Leadership Positions.  It is an opportunity to learn more about Rotary and understand the good work that Rotary does around the world and in our local communities.  It offers an opportunity for Rotary Club Members to connect with other members and often leads to collaborative projects.

An investment in your members’ attendance at RLI is an investment in your Club.  When members are more engaged and knowledgeable about Rotary, they are happier and more likely to stay and be active.

Upcoming Sessions: March 22, 2014 (register now), October 18, 2014, March 21, 2015, October 17, 2015

The Rotary District 5650 2014 Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) Retreat will be held from Friday, April 11th to Sunday, April 13th 2014 at Camp Kitaki, Louisville, NE.
It is available to High school Juniors who demonstrate leadership potential. Clubs pay the cost of sponsoring students which is $200 per person. We are asking clubs to consider sponsoring two students (one male and one female). We are also asking clubs to consider sponsoring their inbound Youth Exchange students. We are hoping for 100 youth attendees this year. The information for club sponsorship/responsibilities is listed on the RYLA site page

Telling Our Story

TELLING OUR STORY

Our identity is more than our logo and colors. It is the essence of who we are and what we do. The Strengthening Rotary initiative helps us tell that story in a compelling way. By providing a clear and consistent image of what Rotary stands for and how we differ from other charitable organizations, we offer prospective members, donors, and other stakeholders a compelling reason to engage with us.

Research conducted among Rotary members worldwide revealed insights about who we are

  • Rotary members are responsible leaders, both socially and ethically. We define leadership by mindset and approach, not labels or titles.
  • Connecting with each other and our communities will always be the driving force behind Rotary.
  • Rotary affects local communities on a global scale to create lasting change.

We found our voice:

  • Smart — we are insightful and discerning
  • Compassionate — we tackle community challenges with empathy and understanding
  • Persevering — we find lasting solutions to systemic problems
  • Inspiring — we encourage others to take action, conveying hope, enthusiasm, and passion

We defined three core ideas to help you describe Rotary to a new audience:

  • Rotary joins leaders from all continents, cultures, and occupations.
  • Rotary exchanges ideas, bringing our expertise and diverse perspectives to help solve some of the world’s toughest problems.
  • Rotary takes action to bring lasting change to communities around the world.

Our story hasn’t changed. But how we share it with the world is vital to our future. Through a unified Rotary look and clear and compelling voice, we are enhancing our legacy as one of the most widely recognized and respected organizations in the world.

Start now with the Voice and Visual Identity Guidelines.

Club and District Support Information

The Club and District Support (CDS) staff is your key contact. They provide personalized service, training, and guidance on Rotary resources, policies, and procedures.

We hope the first quarter of your term has gone well. With the launch of the new rotary.org we wanted to provide you with some quick links, this attached document can be saved to your desktop and used as a quick reference.

Did you know that all U.S. Rotary Clubs & Districts are automatically covered by two different types of liability insurance: 1) general liability and 2) directors’ and officers’ / employment practices liability?  US Rotarians pay for this insurance through the 1 July SAR. An annual update about this insurance will be e-mailed to U.S. club and district officers next month.  To learn more about this insurance coverage, U.S. Rotarians are highly encouraged to visit the Insurance Information Portal at http://www.locktonportal.com/sites/rotary/resources(UsernameRotarian & Password: Resources#1).  If there are insurance questions, please feel free to contact the insurance broker (Lockton) at 1-800-921-3172 or rotary@lockton.com or Risk Management at insurance@rotary.org.
