Keynote Presentation - Dr Sujit Brahmochary

As Governor of District 9810 Melbourne Australia, I am pleased to invite you to a special International Guest presentation from 5.00 - 6.00 PM (AEST) on Monday 29th August, 2022.

This is a rare occasion for our Rotary Districts to learn about Rotary International global support offered to assist the ‘Institute for Indian Mother and Child’ (IIMC), an initiative carried out by Dr Sujit Brahmochary in Kolkata, India.  Dr Sujit is visiting Australia for the Global Health Conference in Melbourne in August this year and is available for one presentation only on Monday 29 August.  He has an incredible record of achievement, starting his career as Mother Teresa's medical advisor; and is now an honorary member of the Rotary Club of Calcutta.

While relying on the global support from under-graduate medical students to volunteer their effort to assist in an expansive and multi-dimensional project that has been his life's work, addressing health, education, a thriving microcredit lending program, Rotary is a valued partner to raise awareness of the program and encourage participation of under graduate medical students in each country.

Dr Sujit will outline how IIMC now encompasses 8 medical outreach clinics seeing (approx 50,000 patients per year), hosting medical student volunteers every month, 30 schools plus an orphanage for boys, a handicapped residential centre, and a daycare centre  supported by Australia, Italy, Spain, Belgium, and many other countries; a Microcredit finance program with 7 community banks, supporting >30,000 women to start small businesses of their own; an NGO network linking small NGOs throughout rural India; and a  crisis aid response to major disasters including severe monsoonal flooding and the COVID pandemic. IIMC greatly relies on the support of undergraduate Medical student volunteers.
