Victoria Police, in association with Rotary have established a successful partnership to deliver the Victorian Police Leaders Mentoring Program. The program is a structured development opportunity that partners a Police member with a Rotary mentor, in order to increase understanding of strategic leadership and community engagement at individual and, ultimately organisational level.

Since the original pilot in 2007, the program has provided a valuable mentoring and development experience for more than 150 Victorian Police members. The aim is to build understanding of, and capability in, community engagement and partnership building and to provide exposure to alternative leadership approaches. Mentees are Senior Sergeants that have been identified as strong performers and having potential for future leadership roles. They have to be nominated by Victoria Police Command, based on organisational identified priority areas for building community engagement and leadership. This program runs for 12 months with monthly meetings between the Rotary Mentor and Mentee.

Our District currently has Rotarians mentoring a number of police officers in the Dandenong, Drouin, Mornington Peninsula and Sale regions. If you would like more information on the program – contact District Vocational Service Chair, Bill Degnan.
