Catherine Cercone “Cat” Miller, newly elected Mayor of Struthers, was the invited speaker at the January 14th meeting of the Struthers Rotary Club.  Hosted by Rotarian Tom Baringer, Cat was the first student recruited for the newly-formed Struthers Rotary Interact Club at Struthers High school about twenty years ago.  Since then she was installed as the founding President of the Struthers Rotary Community Corp and has chaired the committee responsible for the Annual Taste of Struthers for the group.  She is also a Trustee with the Struthers School Foundation for Educational Excellence and has been Chair of the Annual 4th of July Parade sponsored by that group for the last several years.

Cat related to the Rotary that all of her activities have been blessed with the help of those around her.  Her high school job shadowing of then Mayor Dan Mamula was the seed that set her growth toward seeking the Mayoral office herself.  Despite several challenges she experienced during her election campaign, she pressed forward and achieved her goal with the full support of her friends, family and particularly her mother Doreen - who passed away just before Cat’s installation as Mayor.

Cat is easing into her mayoral role by meeting with all of the Struthers Council members and the department staff.  She is acclimating the City personnel to her style of governance and is seeking the opinions and advice of all those around her, including government staff, school representatives, business owners and residents.

Cat is also moving forward with the recently approved new Struthers Fire Station construction and with plans for dam removal on the Mahoning River.  Cat is open to hearing from all those interested in improving the viability and quality of life in the City of Struthers.
