The Rotary Club of Lagos Mainland, a member of the District 9110 family, has extended its hands of love to destitute in Okobaba, Ebute Metta area of Lagos State to keep their home environmentally-safe.
 
The club president, Rotarian Oguntade Akeem Adesina, some past presidents, board members, and some other members of the club, Rotarian Dr. Wale Ogunbadejo, the District Governor of Rotary International District 9110, Nigeria, to the home during his official visit to the club on Tuesday, September 26, 2017.
 
DG Ogunbadejo, who was accompanied on the visit by the District Secretary, Rotarian Segun Adewakun, and several other district leaders, personally participated in the fumigation exercise during the humanitarian outreach to the home. The destitute were seen jubilating upon the arrival of the Governor and other members of the group.
 
Every year, the Rotary Club of Lagos Mainland sponsors the fumigation of the home and this year was no different. The exercise started on Monday, September 25, 2017 and as at the day of the visit, all the rooms, numbering 250, and batchers, about 300 in number, have been thoroughly fumigated.
 
One of the leaders of the home thanked the Governor, Rotary Club of Lagos Mainland, and also the entire Rotary Clubs in Nigeria for coming to their rescue.
 
The club leaders and members also led the DG and his entourage on a courtesy visit to the home of Honourable Chief M.A.K. Lawal, Baale of Ago-Ijebu Ijero Ebute-Metta (West) of Lagos Mainland Local Government Area of Lagos.
 
Rotarian Akeem Sunmonu, a past president of the club, who is also the special assistant to the District Governor, while addressing the group, said that the “Baale has been very supportive to our club, both financially and in other aspects. Hardly have we executed any project without Baba’s support and consistent follow up on the projects executed. Even when we refuse, he will insist.”
 
While responding, the Baale, also said that, “I remember when I was honoured by Rotary Club, at the time when the club came to drill a borehole. I was even given the fight against polio pin, although I forgot to come out with it. I pray that as you continue in your good deeds, God will continue to lift you all up. I will continue to support to the club.”
 
The Baale also stated that he is an active member of the Glaucoma Patients Care Initiative of Nigeria.
 
The Governor commended the Baale’s participation in the Glaucoma initiative, adding that a lot of people don’t even know about Glaucoma. He encouraged the Baale not to relent in his support for Rotary Club and also for the Glaucoma Initiative.
“If we have people like you everywhere, it will be easy for us to execute projects and be sure there is someone who will properly look after them”, the DG said, while stressing the importance of a community corps for the club, to help complement the Baale’s effort in looking after projects executed by the club. The DG also honoured and designed the Baale with his own Rotary polio pin.
 
At the club’s board meeting, the DG commended the club’s account, describing it as “well prepared” and “very easy to follow”. He however urged the club to look into corporate or associate membership, and also bring in more honorary members. According to him, these members may not be able to attend club meetings regularly, but they will render the needed support to the club when executing projects.
 
Mrs. Ogunnaike, representing Arts and Craft Centre, Ojo-Oniyun was present at the club fellowship to appreciate the club for its support for the centre. She also presented some items designed by students of the Centre. The items include a raffia bag designed by a nine-year-old boy.
Six new members were also inducted into the Rotary Club of Lagos Mainland by the District Governor.
