Rotary Club of Anthony Metropolitan, District 9110 has provided health care and economic empowerment for indigent members of its community.
 
The club, under the leadership of the club president, Rotarian Okechukwu Onyi, gave out insecticide-treated nets to members of Anthony community during the official visit of the District Governor, Rotarian Dr. Adewale Ogunbadejo to the club on Sunday, December 10, 2017.
 
The club also gave out brand new grinding machines and a sewing machine to three beneficiaries. 
 
DG Ogunbadejo, who was accompanied on the visit by members of his entourage including the District Secretary, Rotarian Segun Adewakun, stated the importance of the treated nets for the prevention of Malaria.
 
“In Africa, Malaria kills far more than HIV/AIDS and Tuberculosis and the set of people mostly affected are children, pregnant women and the elderly people”, the Governor said, while presenting the treated nets to members of the community, on behalf of the club.
 
The Governor, during the club assembly, advised the club to adopt online meeting system during which those who are not members of the club can also be part of. 
 
“For a club to do big things, you need more members; their time, money, talent, etc, and this is one of the ways through which the club can attract new members”, he said.
 
The DG further stated the need for continuous education of its members, especially the new ones, through seminars. “Rotary is a knowledge based organisation. It keeps revolving so we have to keep in touch with it.”
 
He pointed out the Zonal Institute as a platform where Rotarians can acquire Rotary knowledge, adding that the Institute is now open to all Rotarians.
 
During the club fellowship, Tope Obaniyi, a young girl who is an orphan was presented by the club to the DG, as one of its projects, having provided her with an artificial arm and also assisted her through secondary school. The club revealed that it plans to further assist her through her higher institution.
