The District Governor, Rotary International, District 9110 Nigeria, Rotarian Kola Sodipo has urged members of Rotary Club of Akoka led by the club president, Rotarian Tokunbo Olaofe to “be the inspiration” this Rotary year and beyond.

DG Sodipo told the club members during his official visit to the club with some members of his entourage, on Monday, July 23, 2018 that “this Rotary year, Rotary International President Barry Rassin from The Bahamas has asked us to ‘Be the Inspiration’, but how do we be the inspiration?

According to the DG, “we can only be the inspiration to others when we ourselves are internally inspired. We can only be the inspiration when we touch the lives of the millions of people that are faced with various social afflictions.

“The good may not come back to you directly; it may come back to your family members, to your children and even to your unborn generation”, he added.
“When they see us, they come to us for help and we render the help to them, even when it’s difficult because when we do that, we are not only helping those people that are in need, we are also helping ourselves as the good we do always comes back to us.

“The good may not come back to you directly; it may come back to your family members, to your children and even to your unborn generation”, he added.

The Governor, during the club assembly, also told the club members that “one of the core focus of our organization is membership”. He noted that the focus on membership has increased in the last couple of years since the total number of Rotarians has remained 1.2million. This, he further noted, is not because no new members are joining the club but the club has not been able to retain its new members.

On that note, he advised the club to invite guest speakers to speak during club meetings at least once every month instead of quarterly as stated in the club’ workbook as this will make meetings more interesting and members will always look forward to attending the next meeting. It will generally help to retain members in the club.

The DG further told the club members that there will be a Rotary friendship exchange between the district and District 7670 North Carolina, adding that further information will be passed across to clubs for members that are interested to join the team that will be visiting District 7670 after the District must have visited Nigeria.
