Rotary Club of Athol-Orange Recognizes

TWO DOZEN Community Members with Paul Harris Honors

 
Service above self, one of the primary guiding principles of Rotary International, is exemplified not only by our local Rotary club but within our community at large. 
 
 
On November 15th, the Athol-Orange Rotary Club gathered to honor Rotarians, their spouses and community members with a Paul Harris recognition. Paul Harris founded Rotary International in 1905, a service organization that currently has well over one million members worldwide. Paul Harris Fellows are named through a number of ways  Individuals who have contributed more than $1000 to the Annual Program Fund, the Polio Plus Fund or the Humanitarian Grants Program of the Rotary Foundation are recognized as Paul Harris Fellows. Additionally, individual Rotary clubs may from time to time honor individuals as Paul Harris Fellows. These honorees are individuals who meet high professional and personal standards set forth by Paul Harris.  
 
These standards include:  Encouraging and fostering the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster the development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service; High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society; The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian’s personal, business, and community life; The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.
 
The following Rotarians and spouses were named Paul Harris Fellows from other Rotarians or from their own contributions: Kathy Kilhart, Kirby Lecy, Martin Robichaud, Linda Oldach, Lisa Carey and Jeanette Robichaud.  Paul Harris Foundation Multiples were awarded to Rotarians who have surpassed the initial giving level of $1,000.00, each plus indicated next to their name indicates an additional $1,000.00. Those recognized were William Oldach +1, Brian Hunton +1, William Kessler +2, Debra Vescovi +2, Debra Blanchard +2, Derek Estler +2, Alan Bowers +3 qnd Curt Rand +8.
 
The Athol-Orange Rotary Club also celebrated a milestone of giving, collectively as a club to date $100,000 has been donated to the Rotary Foundation. These dollars come back to the community by way of grants, and internationally in helping to eradicate polio and provide clean water and the alleviation of poverty in third world countries. 
 
Most notably, Rotarians from the Athol Orange Area recognized nine individuals from the North Quabbin Community who have exemplified the standards of rotary and have made a strong and lasting impact on our community.  These community honorees included Stephen Raymond, David Flint, Jeffery Cole, Pennie Smith, Pamela Smith, Douglas Starrett, James Meehan, Richard Chaisson and Senator Steven Brewer.  The Athol Orange Rotary Club extended its appreciation, admiration and gratitude for all these community members have done for our area.
