Calling All Bakers

Dracut - Registration forms are now available for Dracut Rotary Club’s Gingerbread House Competition. Held on Saturday, December 7th, in conjunction with the town’s Tree Lighting Ceremony, it heralds the official kick-off of Dracut’s holiday season.

“This is an event we look forward to every year,” said competition chair Sue Neary. “It’s Dracut Rotary’s holiday gift to the community and an opportunity for us to collect donations for Dracut’s Food Pantry,” Neary added . There is no fee to participate. All entries must be edible and will become the property of the Rotary Club to be part of the raffle.

This year’s competition will feature four categories: Professionals [bakers, chefs, etc.]; Amateurs; Young Adults [ages 13 to 19 years]; and Children [to age 12]. Prizes will be awarded to the first three entrants in each category. Gingerbread creations need to be dropped off at Harmony Hall, adjacent to the Daoulas School Complex, on Friday - December 6th - between 4 and 7 pm.

Visitors can view the Gingerbread Houses from 11am to 7pm on December 7th at Harmony Hall. Then they can vote for their favorites. The lucky raffle winners will get to take the winning creations home for their holiday table.
“Admission, music, snacks, coffee and cocoa are free, and Santa Claus will be dropping by from 5 to 7pm, so bring your cameras,” said Neary. “And of course, there will be free gingerbread cookies for the children to decorate all day,” she added.

Donations will be accepted for Dracut’s Food Pantry and all proceeds from the event will benefit the Pantry as well.
