An enthusiastic crowd of over 100 participants helped to package 10,000 meals in record time with the Stop Hunger Now program Saturday morning at Nashoba Regional High School in Bolton. Several other Clubs witnessed...

Organized by the Rotary Clubs of Nashoba Valley, Littleton, and Clinton, who contributed a total of $2,500 to pay for the meals, the event was a , phenomenal success. “We were expecting 60 people and 125 showed up,” said Laura Spear, president of the Nashoba Valley Club. “We are thrilled that so many came to support Stop Hunger Now which distributes food and other life-saving aid to areas of the world devastated by natural and other disasters.”  Stop Hunger Now meal packaging events give volunteers an opportunity to participate in a hands-on international hunger relief program and to become educated, engaged advocates for the world’s poor and hungry.

High school students and adults from the three Rotary Club communities donned hair caps, plastic gloves and set to work assembling packets which contained rice, soy, dehydrated vegetables, and a flavoring mix that included 21 essential vitamins and minerals. Each of the bags contains six meals which were then weighed and sealed ready to be packed into corrugated boxes for shipment around the world. These meals were targeted for school lunch programs, according to Marc Vermouth, SHN New England regional manager.

Each time the group reached 1000 meals someone would hit a gong and make an announcement. Cheers spilled from the crowd.

Not a bad way to spend a morning in January!
