Dear Fitchburg Mayor Stephen DiNatale:

Thanks for your generous assistance to schedule PROJECT SOAR’s opening event/launch on June, 12, 2018 from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Fitchburg Municipal Airport.  Here is a FIRST DRAFT AGENDA for your review and others. Please feel free to share with your staff and other people that might get involved to make this yet another successful Fitchburg event. 


 

June 11, from 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM: 

  • Deliver 60’ long paper airplane to airport. The plane will be divided into 3 parts and moved on a large flat bed truck from Fitchburg’s Steel Fab warehouse space at 552 Oak Hill Road, Fitchburg, MA
  • Assemble the paper airplane and safely attach the plane to a fence and or another apparatus. 
  • Install all banner signage, flags, and other props are put up at strategic locations.
  • Bring tables, chairs, paper airplane prototypes, and other materials to the site.
  • Deliver crane to site and have it ready for hoisting.   
  • Initial video/photography documentation begins. 

 

 June 12, 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM 

  • Secure paper airplane to crane. (the paper airplane will be seen in its normal position laying on its side so the public can see the artworks on both sides of the plane (approx. 14’ high X 60’ long X 18’ wide).
  • Set-up of all caution tape designated areas for crowd control and safety.  
  • 7:30 AM - 9:00 AM: School buses pick-up all FHS students and brings them to airport. (we are searching for a sponsor to pay for this). 
  • 8:30 AM - 9:00 AM: PROJECT SOAR Youth/Adult Media ambassadors in position to provide press packages, souvenirs, water, snacks, etc.  Documentation crews arrive for LIVE TELECAST to captures the day’s activities to a world-wide audience. Musicians and performers arrive and set up. 
  • 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM: FHS and other visiting students engage in a series of art-making, paper-plane and  origami workshops in collaboration with dozens of artists and community volunteers.  
  • 10:00 AM -11:00 AM: Mayor Stephen DiNatale is the host of a series of short speaking presentations and a special Fitchburg paper-ribbon cutting and gift-giving ceremony including but not limited to Governor Charlie Baker, other State of Massachusetts representatives, Jerry Beck, Rotary Club leader, Andre Ravenelle, Jeremy Roche, James Vander Hooven, and a team of selected young people. 
  • 11:00 AM -11:15 AM: Crane lifts paper airplane high in the sky. Crane drops thousands of small paper airplanes and origami cranes with music playing. 
  • 11:15 AM - 11:30 AMCrane moves until 60’ paper airplane is moving in one direction and then is let go to fly to the ground.  Hundreds of photographs are taken and several video tape units as well as TV and media coverage that captures this historic moment.   
  • 11:30 AM - 11:45 AM: FHS and other participating students get a PROJECT SOAR (WORLD-RECORD) T-Shirt (if funded). 
  • 11:45 AM - 12:45 PM: FHS students return to school. 
  • 11:45 AM - 1:00 PM:  Interviews, Clean-up, purchasing of PROJECT SOAR merchandise, etc. 
  • 1:00 PM - 8:00 PMClean site and return paper airplane. 

 

June 13 - July 1, 2018Contact with Guinness World Records and confirmation of World Record. Thank- you letters. Contact Boston International Airport, Worcester Airport, and Smithsonian Air & Space Museum about accomplishment and exhibition opportunities. 

 

July 3 - 4th, 2018: PROJECT SOAR featured at Civic Days Block Party and Parade. 

 

Other needs to be accomplished with City of Fitchburg and other partners/sponsors/and in-kind donations. 

 

  • Send out Press Releases & Media Packages to local, regional, state-wide, national and international media.  (Need quotes from Mayor and other key participants. Need press photographs). 
  • Find SPONSOR for busing FHS students to airport.
  • Find SPONSOR for giant crane.
  • FIND SPONSOR for the creation of 4000 PROJECT SOAR T-SHIRTS
