WARWICK BACKPACK SNACK ATTACK FEEDS 300

Warwick’s highly successful Backpack Snack Attack began as a dream of Shirley Puett in the Fall of 2008. She approached Warwick Rotary for assistance. Club President Stan Martin and his board of directors liked the idea of providing nutritious weekend meals to needy children. Rotarians provided administrative help and $2,650 “seed” money to help launch the program.
From its modest beginning in January 2009, Backpack Snack Attack now provides nutritional weekend meals to 300 needy children in Warwick, Florida and Greenwood Lake.
Those children also receive winter jackets from Rotary’s Operation Warm Coats and the generosity of Glenn P. and Susan Dickes. Warwick Rotarians have joined Warwick’s Lions Club in hosting a holiday party for local children, including those from the Backpack Snack Attack program, the Alamo and Mustard Seed Ministry.
Puett accepted a $1,000 check last week from the Warwick Valley Rotary Club and thanked club members for their part in the program start-up and their continued support. She also expressed her gratitude to her army of dedicated volunteers, community and school support and the Warwick Reformed Church.
