Diane McGinnis, Adair County R-II School in Brashear, was nominated by the Kirksville North Star Club. Diane is the school’s only English teacher for grades 9-12. She fills her classroom with books at her own expense so that her students have easy access to reading material of interest to them. Diane challenges her students to read 40 books a year, requires them to write about their reading, and helps them make connections between what they read and their own lives.
While not all of her students reach the 40 books a year goal, but many do, and all students read at least 10 books. Diane is a role model for vocational service. She teaches with integrity and contributes her passion and expertise to combat poverty locally through the promotion of literacy and a love of reading both inside and outside the classroom. Diane is a member of the Rotary Club of Kirksville North Star.
