At our district conference each year, the Rotary district governor selects a service project so our D5890 Rotarians can make a positive impact in the local community.  At this year's conference, District Governor Nick has selected TWO great community service projects benefiting the Galveston community.

Since some Rotary clubs have blood drives in their own community 8-weeks before or after the district conference, they won't be able to donate blood.  Another option for your club would be to participate in our "Educational Supplies for Parker Elementary School for International Studies" Service Project.

Service Project #1)
Parker Elementary School for International Studies, Galveston (perfect for those that can't donate blood):
On Friday, April 29th, our Inbound District 5890 Rotary Youth Exchange Students will spend the morning being goodwill ambassadors at this elementary school visiting each classroom and speaking to the students about Rotary, their home country, and their experiences as a RYE student.  On behalf of our District 5890 Rotarians, they will present much needed educational supplies to the school.

How can D5890 Rotarians help?

Their school recently received a grant specifically for library books, so their school counselor has said that they really need donations of reading games, puzzles, math games, etc. for the teachers to use in their classrooms in all grade levels.  Below are links provided by the school counselor with the educational supplies that their school needs:
Click here to order READING GAMES.  (Sale prices from $2.27 to $42.24)
Click here to order EDUCATIONAL PUZZLES. (Sale prices from $2.27 to $42.24)
Click here to order MATH GAMES & PUZZLES. (Sale prices from $2.27 to $11.69)

1.  Everything they need is available online at Scholastic in their "Teacher's Store" and many items are on SALE!
2.  We encourage Rotarians and Rotary clubs to purchase items online, but you will need to set-up an account and here's details to use:
      A.  The counselor said that since Scholastic will deliver your order to her campus, please set-up an account using "ROTARIAN" in front of your first name.
      B.  The name of the school is in Galveston, TX, "Parker Elementary School, 6802 Jones Dr."
      C.  Under "Administration", select "Other Educator"
      D.  Select your items, then pay with your personal credit card. (The school  WILL NOT have access to your personal information)
      E.  Scholastic will ship your order directly to Parker Elementary. (Which is why item #B above is an important step.)
      F.  Since you've added "Rotarian" in front of your first name, the school will know it is from a D5890  Rotarian when it is delivered.
      G.  The school will hold the order until our Rotary Youth Exchange Students arrive on April 29th for their presentation.
3.  Don't want to order from Scholastic? Then purchase puzzles (for ages 5-11) at Half Price Books, Barnes & Noble, Target, etc.
4.  Since our RYE Students will visit the school on the morning of Friday, April 29th....Please bring items that you don't order from Scholastic to our D5890 Conference Check-in Desk on THURSDAY, APRIL 28TH or before breakfast on FRIDAY MORNING, April 29th so our Rotary Youth Exchange Students can take all donations with them to the school on Friday morning.
