The Mateka Children’s Home Water Well is known as Arron’s Well, in Memoriam of Rotarian and former President Aaron Lemmon of Athens, TX and President Elect of Prosper, TX. Aaron passed away in January. Aaron and Damon Donnell, at the time, PE of Athens Rotary discussed partnering in late 2020 to form an international service project to drill water wells in Kenya as one of Rotary core focus areas: Clean Water and Sanitation.

Rotarian Damon Donnell and his spouse Candace spent two years building a relationship with Pastor Moses Wafula in Bungoma, Kenya. The pastor oversees the spiritual and natural needs of 25 churches, 4 orphanages that provide for a minimum of 450 orphans and 100 widows. Each day, these orphanages load 50-gallon containers onto mule wagons to retrieve the day's water. They spend an average of 8 hours a day collecting water.

By partnering as Rotary our goal will be to assist in the development of a WASH Zone in Bungoma, Kenya.
