Preston Center Rotary Club is very committed to help flatten the curve for COVID-19. One effective way is to not only “mask up” but to use face coverings that shields the eyes as well.
As you may recall Governor Abbott Executive Order requires Texans to wear face coverings during the COVID-19 disaster.  Face shields are acknowledged as effective tools in helping to prevent the aerosol, droplets and contact effects of this virus. We have an opportunity to purchase face shields at commercial volume discount pricing that unique as they can be branded with our Rotary logo and shared with the communities we love and support. We hope the branded Rotary shields create a lasting public image that Rotary Cares, while serving as a visible, effective deterrent to the spread of this deadly disease.

Preston Center RC member Kevin Keliher has arranged for Riverside Medical Packaging in the United Kingdom to provide their new NHS front line branded face shields to Rotary.  Clubs may want to purchase a box of 50 for their own members, but more importantly, it gives us a chance to provide our community with PPE during this extended disaster.

This could be a great opportunity for a District Grant. Each club can use the branded Rotary shields and pass out to Community members in need. Examples of uses/ service projects:
  • RC Dallas is looking into distributing to First Responders.
  • Preston Center RC works with Voice of Hope (low income after school), Our Calling (Homeless), Meals on Wheels and Others which will be recipients.
  • Food Bank staff & other community facing servers would probably welcome the shield as they interact with the public
  • Big Box business, grocery store or a community gathering may allow Rotarians to pass these out to patrons at the front doors in neighborhood most at risk.
  • Local business leaders may want to purchase some for their employees and customers

The shields come with a bag so we can add instructions on use, disclaimers and an informational card explaining Rotary and use the Rotary face shield as a recruitment tool.

With the extended District Grant Filing deadline of September 15, several clubs may combine funds and purchase larger quantities at lower prices for economy of scale. Shipping a pallet by air will deliver 50 boxes of 50 shields each at $3.00 a face shield.

Preston Center RC has taken a lead in procuring Rotary Branded Face Shield by applying for a District Grant of $3,300 and placed an initial order for 2,500 Face Shields with air delivery. PCRC will be happy to share samples with interested club hopefully very early in September.  PCRC  has underwritten a simple campaign slogan that could be used by Rotary across Texas.

We look forward to hearing how our members and the communities we serve use the Rotary Branded Face Shields.

Kevin is available to zoom into your club meeting and discuss this opportunity.  Being ‘People of Action’ we must move quickly, as every day our coronavirus numbers seem to escalate.
