Dr. Perkins possesses the rare combination of academic study, real world experience and the desire to do good in the world that epitomizes a Peace Fellowship award winner.

She has lived in challenging conditions in refugee camps where she worked to integrate displaced refugees into their new home.  To have lasting peace and to resolve conflict, Dr. Perkins understands that we must have a plan for those who were left behind by those conflicts and to give hope for a future to those who are strangers in a land that often times does not accept them as fellow citizens.

Carrie Perkins through her study of human anthropology and her work in the refugee camps in Thailand and Southeast Asia has spent decades addressing this issue.  She is committed to peace building and community development for these marginalized refugee populations and shares Rotary’s vision for social change and harmonious world peace. However, her interests are much broader than this issue.  Dr. Perkins’ professional experience includes working to implement agricultural initiatives, community building, livelihood creation and migrant resettlement.  Following her continued studies through the aid of the of the Peace Fellowship Award, she hopes to influence global policy on behalf of displaced people.
