Dear District Rotarians:

Greetings from sunny Ada. I am writing to encourage your club to nominate a qualified Rotarian to serve as District 5770 Governor 2019-2020. I know that seems like a long way off, but the job involves training over an almost 3-year period, beginning with Lone Star PETS in February, 2017. Individuals may also self-nominate, but the club must still certify the nomination. Several Past District Governors have pursued this option.

An appended list of official qualifications for the office and the nomination form are click stops in the left column of this page. They are taken from the Rotary International Manual of Procedures and Bylaws. Basically, your nominee must be a current club past president in good standing with an interest in serving District 5770 and Rotary International. While candidates should be knowledgeable about Rotary International and District 5770, the person does not need to know everything about Rotary or about the District (but it helps if she or he is willing to learn!)

All applications will be reviewed by our District Council of Governors (C.O.G.), under direction of our immediate Past District Governor, Marilyn Kaplan. The C.O.G. will invite all applicants to interview at a January meeting in a central location in District 5770. Within 72 hours of that meeting, PDG Marilyn will notify all candidates the C.O.G.’s selection. That selection is normally presented to the District Conference for ratification.

Let me share what I experienced after my selection in January, 2014. I registered for (and attended) Lone Star PETS and the Multidistrict Training Institute (first Saturday in August.) In September Jennifer and I attended the Zones Institute. The next year I attended all three of those meetings again (the training changed as my Governor Year drew closer.) Last January Jennifer and I spent a week in San Diego at the International Assembly (it is NOT a vacation week) with every other incoming Rotary District Governor and spouse/partner. I write this to reassure potential nominees that they will be offered extensive training to prepare them for the job.

I hope you can identify a Past President for the position who is interested in this challenging and rewarding position. The nomination form must be received by PDG Marilyn no later than December 20, 2016.  Please do not hesitate to contact me if I can provide additional information for either you or your club’s nominee.

Yours in Service,

Bob Greenstreet

2016-17 District Governor
