District Governor 2021-22

Greetings District 5580 Rotarians,
Two and a half years ago the D5580 nominating committee selected me to be your District Governor for Rotary year 2021-22.  Since then, Rotary International has been training me through numerous District and Zone ZOOM meetings for the day of July 1, 2021.  Just last week, Rotary International lifted the travel restrictions placed on District leaders.  Currently, if state and local travel is allowed, Rotary gives its blessings to visit District clubs, thus my club schedule has been submitted (after a few updates and corrections).

When I was President of the Fargo Moorhead AM Rotary Club in Rotary year 2004-05 (Rotary’s centennial year), the International President’s theme was Celebrate Rotary.  Having been in Rotary for 30 years and enjoying the many opportunities to Serve to Change Lives (President Shekhar Mehta’s theme for Rotary year 2021-22), I wish to share my experiences with District 5580 Rotarians by Celebrating our many projects and accomplishments.  Rotary clubs throughout the District have had many community and international projects that most Rotarians don’t know about.  With help from several D5580 Rotarians, I have produced a Power Point of projects and Rotarians in Action that I hope will inspire Rotarians to become more engaged and inspire others to join Rotary and Rotary’s efforts: Together we see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change across the globe, in our communities and in ourselves (Rotary’s vision statement).

This year, I will mix it up a bit in having a Zoom meeting with the Board of Directors for each of the 16 Areas prior to my club visit.  For example, on July 6th, the AG from Area 1 (Ken Callahan) will meet with me and club Presidents from Minot, Minot Sunrise, Williston and Watford City.  July 7th, the meeting will be with Area 2 (Kris Fehr) clubs from Bismarck, Bismarck Far-West, Bowman & Dickinson.  Next Area 3 and so forth and so on.  I will ask questions from each of the Boards to get an understanding of each club’s officers, goals, fundraisers, projects, etc. and share this information with District Leaders.  It will give me a better understanding of each club before my visit and presentation so I can apply what was learned to the presentation given.  The first club visit is scheduled for Valley City (Area 5) on July 13th.

Thank you for ALL YOU DO in Rotary!
