In the beginning of March two Rotaractors, MacKenzie MacFarlane and Alyssa Sorenson, from the Twin Ports Rotaract Club went to Guatemala over their college spring break. They joined the second team that went from District 5580 this year to help with the school project in San Antonio, a small rural village in the Quiche region. Here they moved bricks and built rebar to help construct the new three-roomed school that is currently being built to replace the small one-room school that currently exists.

MacKenzie and Alyssa were also able to meet up with the Guatemalan Rotaractors that they have hosted in friendship exchanges and were able to strengthen the friendship between the two Rotaract clubs by meeting even more of their members.

“There is no better way I would have wanted to spend our spring break. We had an unforgettable experience with all the kids, and it was even more special to see old friends,” says MacKenzie. “It is always remarkable to see the impact that our district has in Guatemala. At every school visit, the children were full of hugs and huge smiles!”
