Grant Subcommittee Report – May 2020
 
The grant cycle for the fiscal year of July 1, 2019 to June 30, 2020 is drawing to a close.  During this grant cycle, the grant subcommittee considered 21 grants involving over 25 clubs for a variety of projects doing the work of rotary in the world.  The grant subcommittee approved grant projects totaling $314,000, and funding of $134,661, including funding of 9 local district grants, 2 international district grants, 3 world community service grants, 3 global grants, and 1 district grant.  Following is a summary of the current year grant projects:
 
#20.1.01 Perham Rotary - Scout Park Project (District Grant) to provide bathroom facilities and improve a 30-acre park. Project budget of $17,181 - District grant funds provided of $5,000. 
 
#20.1.02 Jamestown Rotary – Community Bike Fleet (District Grant) to provide bike fleet for Jamestown Park.  Project budget of $23,023 – District grant funds provided of $5,000.   
 
   
 
#20.1.03 – withdrawn due to issue regarding eligibility for district grant. 
 
#20.1.04 – Duluth Skyline Rotary – Arm-Loc project (District Grant) to provide emergency service Arm Loc devices to aid in water rescues.  Project budget of $16,000 – District grant funds provided of $8,000.  Four club project each providing $2,000 of club funds and matched by our District. 
 
   
 
#20.1.05 - District 5580 Youth Protection / Anti-Trafficking initiative grant to raise awareness, education, and prevention training in District 5580, in cooperation with Districts 5950, and 5960. Project budget of $12,000, which was funded solely by District 5580. 
 
#20.2.06 – Ely Rotary – Ely Pocket Park project (District Grant) to provide park benches in an Ely park. Project budget of $10,247 – District grant funds provided of $5,000. 
 
#20.2.07 – Crookston Rotary – Crookston Youth Foundation funding (District Grant) of the Cove Youth Center recording studio and training facility in Crookston Schools.  Project budget of $10,000 – District grant funds provided of $5,000. 
 
#20.2.08 – Bismarck Rotary – Liberty Elementary School Sensory Playground Roller Table project (District Grant) for all-inclusive playground. Project budget of $10,490 – District grant funds provided of $5,000. 
 
#20.2.09 – withdrawn due to timing of project.  Likely to be submitted at a future date. 
 
#20.3.10 – Moorhead Rotary Club – clinic expansion project (WCS Grant) in Sumala, Icla, Bolivia.  Project budget of $74,087, of which $29,976 is funded by this grant.  Four clubs and personal donations are funding $14,988 which is being matched by the District 5580 WCS funds of $14,988. 
 
#20.3.11 – Fargo Moorhead AM Rotary Club - Turbala, Guatemala school supply project (District Grant). Project budget of $2,500 – District grant funds provided of $1,200.  Four club project each providing $300 of club funds and matched by our District.
 
#20.3.12 – Duluth Harbortown Rotary Club – Water well project (WCS Grant) in Laguna Sulti, Punata, Bolivia.  Project budget of $70,000 for two water wells, of which $28,000 is funded by this grant. Multi-club project requiring $14,000 of club contributions, which will be matched by District 5580 WCS funds of $14,000. 
 
#20.3.13 – Fargo Moorhead AM Rotary Club – School expansion project (WCS Grant) in Turbala, Guatemala.  Project budget of $15,712 – District 5580 WCS funds provided of $7,731.  Four clubs are each providing $1,933 and matched by the WCS fund. 
 
#20.3.14 – Grand Rapids Rotary – Food pantry project (District Grant) for GR area schools.  Project budget of $10,639 – District grant funds provided of $5,000.
 
#20.3.15 – Central Lakes Rotary - Pine River Dam Park project (District Grant) to provide park benches in the park.  Project budget of $4,453 – District grant funds provided of $2,200. 
 
#20.3.16 – Fargo Moorhead AM Rotary Club – Global Grant #2096397 Business Development Micro-Loan Project in Gondar, Ethiopia.  Project budget of $51,916 – District 5580 DDF of $14,833 provided to fund project.  Multi club project providing club funding of $14,833, which will be matched by District 5580 District Designated Funds of $14,833, and Global Grant funds of $22,250. 
 
#20.4.17 – Withdrawn due to scope of project and available funding.  Considering global grant.
 
#20.4.18 – Duluth 25 Rotary - South Sudan Ag Development project (District Grant) to provide tools, supplies, and rent for ag development for Uganda refugees.  Project budget of $5,000 – District grant funds provided of $2,500.  
 
#20.4.19 - Fargo Moorhead AM & Nipigon Rotary Clubs – Global Grant #2096824 for treatment of children in Sri Lanka with congenital heart defects.  Project budget of $152,113 – District 5580 contribution to GG of $4,000.  The two clubs are providing club funding of $2,000, which will be matched by District 5580 District Designated Funds of $2,000. 
 
#20.4.20 – Fargo Rotary Club – Global Grant #2098206 for the Fidelia S. Maninga Scholarship for graduate level study in the area of disease prevention and treatment at Bradford, UK.  Project budget of $51,418 – District 5580 District Designated Funds of $25,709 provided to fund project, which will be matched with Global Grant funds of $25,709. 
 
#20.4.21 – Bemidji Rotary Club – Natural playground project (District Grant) for a Bemidji park.  Project budget of $11,460 – District Grant funds provided of $5,500.  Two club project providing funds of $5,960 and matched by District grant in the amount of $5,500. 
 
Through the grant process the above clubs leveraged their funds to enhance their impact both locally and internationally.
