Boise Sunrise supports the work of Life’s Kitchen with a grant
Boise Sunrise recently delivered a grant check to Life’s Kitchen in Boise. This outstanding organization takes a fully comprehensive approach to training new chefs and food service employees. We met with Tammy Johnson, L/K’s Executive Director, when this check was delivered. Interestingly, these funds are to be used to purchase new knives for the organization. These are important tools for chefs and the time had come to replace their old ones.

Life’s Kitchen has a training model which lasts ~16 weeks and takes all of their students through numerous aspects of food preparation in order to position them for success in this field. They also have a computer lab which assists their trainees in obtaining their GED and related certifications within the food service sector. Additionally, they bring in experts to address critical life skills like budgeting, credit card use, and other topics which are meant to fully prepare their trainees for the challenges they will face after they graduate. Tammy asserted that  their placement rate is over 71% within the first three months of a student graduating from the program.

Life’s Kitchen has an active restaurant in their facility on Fairview Avenue in Boise and they serve breakfasts and lunches at this location. The Rotary Club of Boise Sunrise is proud to support the excellent work that Life’s Kitchen is doing and has used their students and their expertise previously when executing the club’s annual Lobsterfest fundraiser. Life’s Kitchen is meeting a critical need for their students and for the Boise community.

We greatly enjoy collaborating with them in our efforts to Leave It Better Than We Found It.
