The Goldfinch Most Valuable Rotarian Award was created by District Governor Denis Boyd to enable District 5050 to to recognize individuals who have been a big help to the District as part of the leadership team.

The Award is named in recognition and remembrance of the late Ron Goldfinch from the Rotary Club of Chilliwack, who was an exemplary Rotarian.

Ron was very dedicated to Rotary and equally well organized in the pursuit of his duties. He worked hard and best of all he had a great sense of humour. The Goldfinch Most Valuable Rotarian is someone who emulates these qualities.

The first Goldfinch Award was given at the 2014 Peak Experience District 5050 Conference in Whistler BC.

Ron’s wife, Marie Goldfinch was consulted on the creation of the award and involved in the creation of the recognition pin and the focus of the award.

The first recipient of this recognition was Assistant Governor, Val Tibbetts (Fidalgo Island Rotary). The announcement was made by Marie, assisted by Chilliwack Past President, Carol Tichelman.

A second Award was given to Conference Co-Chair, Past President (Coquitlam Rotary) and First Lady, Maureen Boyd.
