Rotary is continually seeking to train and promote leaders and one of the best jobs in Rotary is that of Assistant Governor.  AG's serve four to six local clubs and act as the liaison between the District Governor and the clubs.

DISTRICT 5050 Assistant Governors’
Role and Responsibilities
 
 
Purpose:
The Assistant Governors’ primary role is to assist the governor with the District administration of their assigned area Rotary clubs, helping to ensure their effectiveness as Rotary Clubs.
 
Effective clubs are able to:
  • Sustain and increase their membership base;
  • Implement successful service projects that address the needs of their community and communities in other countries;
  • Support The Rotary Foundation through both program participation and financial contributions;
  • Develop leaders capable of serving Rotary beyond the club level.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the District Governor’s official representative to the assigned area clubs
  • Advise the District Governor of events and activities of district interest or impact
  • Coordinate the District Governor’s visit to Area Clubs and introduce the Governor if requested
  • Attend Assistant Governor training sessions
  • Attend and assist at PETS and Pre-PETS, as well as other district events and seminars
  • Attend District Assembly and encourage Area Clubs to send representatives
  • Encourage Clubs to participate in all District Activities
  • Meet with representatives of each allocated club to review the Clubs plans and objectives and the resources needed for the implementation and success of the plan
  • Assist Clubs as necessary to record Club goals in Rotary Club Central
  • Visit each club regularly, at least once per quarter
  • Hold monthly meetings of Club Presidents
  • Hold regular discussions with Club Presidents to review the business of the clubs and resources available to them
  • Encourage clubs to complete the activities which lead to the Presidential Citation
  • Assist Clubs in obtaining special assistance from District Committees as is appropriate
  • Assist Clubs to promote Rotary activities through the media in their area
  • Assist Clubs with their strategic planning as appropriate
  • Using the “Club Rating” feature in Rotary Club Central, record rating comments at least annually, in by mid May
 
Qualifications:
  • Must have held the position of Club President
  • Must have the ability to visit Clubs regularly
  • Must be able to attend and support District training events
  • Must have completed the three levels of Rotary Leadership Institute
 
Please Note:
Appointments for Assistant Governor are for one year periods with the option to extend the appointment an additional two times should the Governor and Governor Elect determine an extension is in the best interest of the District.
