From Ron Noseworthy, Chair, ShelterBox CanadaPast President, Rotary Club of Kenora:

I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you and the Rotarians from your club for the very generous donation made to the ShelterBox Canada's Philippine Typhoon Appeal.

To date we have raised well over $1 million in Canada to aid the desperate families who have lost everything in this terrible disaster. Rotarians have by far made the most donations to this appeal.  Most of these funds are eligible for the government's matching funds, so Rotarian dollars are doubled for the Philippines relief effort.

I recently returned from a deployment to the Philippines in my capacity as a ShelterBox Response Team (SRT) member and I saw first hand the enormous difference our tents and supplies are making in the lives of Filipinos devastated by this disaster.  Many, many families who were living in very crude makeshift shelters are now living in our tents, giving them a sense of security and hope as they begin to rebuild their lives and homes.

This has been ShelterBox's largest deployment since the Haiti Earthquake.  We have committed to help over 6,000 families and there are several teams of SRTs working in different parts of the very large disaster zone.  Among these have been five Canadian SRTs, two which are Rotarians.

There still is a huge need in the Philippines and ShelterBox will be there as long as there is a need and our generous supporters continue to donate.

On behalf of the many families who have benefited from donations from your Rotary Club, I offer a sincere thank you.
