I received this letter (attached) today from Olga, my contact at the Canadian Blood Services (CBS).

I did ask if the age restriction is still applicable and was told it is NOT, so our “older” members can volunteer.

We need to let our members make note that the clinic starts at 2:30 and not 3:30 as is usual. The shifts would be….

2:30 to 3:45
3:45 to 5:00
5:00 to 6:15
6:15 to 7:30
7:30 to (about) 8:30

Letter From Olga:

Dear Judy and all amazing Spruce Grove Rotary Club Volunteers!
Thank you for your ongoing support!

I’m happy to confirm the upcoming Blood Drive on
July 31st – 2:30-7:30 pm in Holy Trinity Catholic Church!

Please note: NO outside food or drink (NO Subway cookies).

Again, thank you so much for your support during this times!

Please let me know how it went.

As I promised, below (and attached) are a few updates regarding the clinic procedure, as everyone, including staff, volunteers and donors are wearing masks (we will provide by the entrance – wellness check).
Due to the social distancing we can have only 1-2 volunteers per shift.

In our most recent enhanced wellness initiative, we have made face masks a mandatory requirement for everyone while in our centres. Rest and relaxation in our hospitality areas will continue to be part of the post-donation process but we’re now asking donors to simply take only the refreshments they need and wait until they are outside our centres to consume them. Volunteers will be a key component in ensuring this message gets delivered to every donor. We continue to rely on volunteers to monitor donors for their overall experience and to ensure that they have picked up a snack and drink to enjoy after they have left our centres.

I’m attaching a few documents: Volunteering during Covid-19 – May 12 updated training, Volunteers -Enhanced cleaning and disinfection and New measures May 11-Key messages

As always, the Clinic Supervisor is the best resource in providing guidance about your specific are, please check with the Clinic Supervisor prior to your shift.
Below are the key elements to remember:
  • Donors will be instructed to sit in hospitality for 5 minutes post donation before getting a snack or drink
  • After the 5 minutes they will then be able to get a snack and drink and can enjoy their refreshment outside of the donor centre
  • Donors who do not choose to sit for the 5 minutes can grab a snack and drink on their way out to consume after leaving the donor centre. Volunteers are not expected to force a donor to stay but should encourage them to do so
  • Donors will not be able to consume their post donation refreshment in the hospitality area
  • Donors will be expected to keep their mask on while in the hospitality area
  • Volunteer responsibilities – monitor donors, stock and disinfect hospitality area

  • Try to use physical distancing as much as possible, remember your main role is donor safety and experience

  • Refer all donor complaints and/or medical questions to a clinic supervisor, to 1-888-2-DONATE or blood.ca
