At our Changing of the Guard and District Governor Installation on June 27, Past RI President Ray Klinginsmith presented some great information about the historical significance of our club and district. He summarized his comments for us, and we would like to share them with you. We have a lot to be proud of!
 
  1. Club 13 is one of the original 16 clubs that formed Rotary International (RI).
  2. We participated in the first Convention in 1910 and have hosted two international conventions – in 1918 and 1985.
  3. The 1985 convention was the first to promote the PolioPlus program.
  4. We made the first contribution ($26.50) to create The Rotary Foundation (TRF) in 1917 (the equivalent of $525 today).
  5. One of our members, Dick Burnett, led the design process for Rotary Peace Centers.
  6. Marc Horner is the eleventh District 6040 Governor to come from our club.
  7. District 6040 has provided three RI Presidents.
  8. District 6040 has provided four RI directors in the last 40 years.
  9. Two chairs for the triennial RI Council on Legislation meetings have come from our district - most recently, Duane Benton from Club 13.
  10. District 6040 is of the top three districts in our Rotary zone in giving to TRF this year.
