Boo at the Zoo - The Zoo will supply trick-or treat stations along the public paths. Volunteers will be asked to hand out candy, promotional items or coupons, to the children.  We have so much fun when volunteers dress in the spirit of Halloween.  This job is outdoors and volunteers will be able to sit during most of their shift.  Volunteers are more than welcome to wear a costume.  We do ask that they are not too scary for the children since we are a family friendly place for kids to trick-or-treat.  The costume dress up is completely optional!

1)       Shift times – Shift times are important.  Please arrive 10 to 15 minutes prior to shift time. Please allow adequate time to park, check-in, etc. so that you arrive at your station on time.  We depend on our volunteers to monitor the activity stations the entire time the zoo is open.  You are asked to please stay at your station until you are relieved by the next set of volunteers, or excused by a staff member at the end of the day.

Also, keep in mind that we do not have anywhere you can secure your valuables; they will need to stay with you at all times. The zoo will provide lunch to all volunteers that sign up.

2)       Parking: Depending upon the time of your shift and the weather parking could be an issue.  You are welcome to park in any of our parking lots.  However, if attendance is terrific, that might mean that you will have to park quite a distance away from the entrance.  Please allow adequate time to park and check-in before your shift starts.

3)       Check- in: You will need to check-in at the Zoo’s Deramus Lobby (Main Zoo Lobby), which is located at the front entrance of the zoo.  This is the building on the left as you approach the entrance gates to the zoo.  Please let Zoo staff at ticket scanning stations know that you are here to volunteer. When you enter the sliding doors of the building, there will be a table and check in person just inside the doors.  There will be signs to help direct you. At that time, you will be given instructions of your volunteer activity and will be directed to your station.

4)       Weather:  Our October special events happen regardless of the weather - rain, cold, wind or sunshine.  Please be prepared for the elements.  We encourage you to wear a family friendly costume (not scary), but be sure to dress according to the weather, and wear layers if needed.

5)       Drinks/snacks: Please bring a reusable water bottle. You are more than happy to bring snacks as well.

6)       Lunch: Lunch will be provided to all volunteers.  If there are any special dietary needs, please bring your own lunch.
