Dear Members,

As a follow-up to the Club’s visit to Eastside College Preparatory School in May we will have an Eastside visit of another sort on Friday. Once again, in a program presented jointly by the Youth Service and Vocational Service Committees, we will hear personally about the difference the school can make in a young person’s life. We will have an exchange with a panel made up of former students and the Director of their Career Pathways Program.  Career Pathways provides students with school break workshops, career guidance, a job shadowing day, and summer internships.

The discussion will be led by our own KP Naidu, and the panel will include:

Gabe Cervantes who graduated from Eastside in 2009. He then attended Williams College, where he earned a B.A. in American Studies. Through Eastside's Career Pathways program, Gabe secured a Legal internship and a Marketing internship at Hewlett Packard. Gabe is now an Account Executive with the Inside Sales team at Maxta, a cloud software company.

Marlene Curiel graduated from Eastside in 2009. She then attended St. Mary's College, where she earned a B.S. in Business Administration. Through Eastside's Career Pathways program, Marlene secured an internship at SRI International, where she now works full-time as an Associate Subcontract Administrator.

Eun-Mee Jeong is the Director of Career Pathways at Eastside. In her role, she works with corporate and non-profit partners to identify professional opportunities for Eastside alums, and she leads career readiness programs for high school and college students. She also enjoys career coaching alums and teaching high school electives. Eun-Mee earned an A.B. in Music Theory & Musicology from Princeton University and both an M.B.A. and M.A. in Education from Stanford University.

Their visit this week is a great way for us to hear first-hand from the alums about their experience at Eastside and ask them how best we can support them through career talks, internships and mentoring.

See you there,

Don MacKenzie
