Help the children play & give today!

No childhood is complete without play and the physical, social, and emotional benefits it provides. The children who live at Hogar Miguel León don’t have a playground where they can enjoy safe active play—where they can develop large muscle skills, acquire communications skills through sharing and taking turns, form friendships, and exercise creativity.

Background
At Hogar Miguel León, located in the city of Cuenca Ecuador, the Hijas de la Caridad (Sisters of Charity) provide loving care for approximately 50 children, toddlers to teenagers.

Some of the children at Hogar Miguel León are orphans. Others have been removed from troubled or abusive family environments. The nuns provide food, shelter, and educational support to the children in their care. But, resources are limited.

The old, rusted, broken playground equipment on the grounds of the orphanage doesn’t echo with the sounds of children’s laughter. It sits unused because it’s unsafe and unusable. It needs to be removed, and it should be replaced.

The plan
The Riverview Rotary Club of Edmonton, in partnership with the Tomebamba Rotary Club of Cuenca, would like to provide the children who live at Hogar Miguel León with a playground that will make their eyes light up, that will encourage them to jump, climb, swing, and crawl, and that will help them build better relationships with each other. With your help, we can make this happen.

Your dollars will go toward the purchase of a play structure and the materials required to install it. Any funds over the amount we need to purchase and install the play structure will go toward the purchase of sports equipment (e.g., basketball hoops, basketballs, hula hoops, skipping ropes, etc.) that can be safely used on the grounds of the orphanage.

Please help us help the children play. We can’t wait to see their smiles and hear their laughter. Donate today!
