Rotary District  5170 has taken extraordinary steps ... some may say even extraterrestrial steps ... to assemble a compelling program for this year's District Conference April 17-19 at San Jose's Double Tree Airport Hotel.

Don't let the 1970s-inspired title - Close Encounters of a Rotary Kind - throw you.  The program features a lot of really out of this world sessions and events that are worthy your time and attention. Here are few examples:

  • April 17 Dinner.  Featuring Civil Rights Pioneer Ruby Bridges
  • April 18 Breakfast - Start the day with lots of laughs with comedian Michael Pritchard
  • April 18 Forums.  They cover learning opportunities for Red Badger training, fund-raising event management, and member recruitment. The afternoon is capped off by a presentation by Dr. Pascal Lee of the SETI Institute and the NASA Ames Research Center on step-by-step guide toward the first manned mission to Mars
  • April 18 Dinner.  The interplanetary theme continues to the dinner show of "Cirque Encounters of the Rotary Kind,"  Cirque du Soleil-inspired acrobatic display of alien and cosmos dancers.
To encourage you to attend, District 5170 Gov. Ed Jellen and his staff have arranged a $99 two-night special at the Double Tree Hotel. The deadline to take advantange of this deal has been extended to this Wednesday, April 8.  See this link to the District 5170 Clubrunner website for details
