Employing Free Markets to Address the Global Surgical Crisis

Though infectious diseases grab headlines -- and the vast majority of
international public health budgets -- a lack of access to essential,
lifesaving surgical care is responsible for nearly five times as many deaths
every year than TB, Malaria and AIDS combined.  In fact, injuries alone
cause 150% more casualties than these common infectious diseases.  So why is
the world ignoring the greatest international public health threat?  Is the
solution to make billions of dollars in grants like we have in the past, or
are there better, market-driven solutions that might have a better chance of
success?  Join your fellow Rotarians to learn more about how the local
nonprofit Solventas Surgical Alliance is harnessing the power of free market
"impact investing" to solve this seemingly intractable problem.
