At our weekly meeting on March 16, 2018, Vice President Mark Rojek filled in for a traveling President Amanda Tietze. He welcomed the 53 members and 12 guests to the meeting.
 
Past President Jack Barkan gave the Invocation.
 
Secretary Suzette Matthews welcomed the following guests to the meeting: Betty Frank, Barry Adelman, and Leonard Knell (guests of Gary Sirak); Jaylin Turner, Nour Kelly, David Kliem, Joseph Turner, Shaunaugh Turner, Isabelle Oles and Kathleen Levoles (McKinley High School Administrators and Character Champs); Rick Arnold (guest of Rob Roland); Matthew Franta (guest of Tim Franta).
 
Rotarian Mark Clendenin provided the Rotofact of the day.
 
The "Happy News" was then provided by the following:
  • Mark Clendenin - in recognition of the safety efforts of Jackson Schools as well as their support for students expressing their 1st Amendment rights;
  •  
  • PP Rick Taylor - in celebration of the success of the Cincinnati Bearcats men's basketball team!
  •    - to encourage all to attend Celebrity Cuisine, a fundraiser for Community Harvest, featuring 40 restaurants on Tuesday, March 20, 2018, from 5:30 - 8:00pm;
  •  
  • PP Paul White - in thanks for the people who prepare our food each Friday;
  •  
  • Secretary Suzette Matthews - in celebration of her mother, Betty Frank, being in attendance;
  •   -  in recognition of Steve Fettman, Davies Drugs, and Canton Sign (Tim and Matthew Franta) being featured in the Canton Repository for winning an award from the National Community Pharmacists Association (*See story above);
  •  
  • Vice President Mark Rojek - in celebration of the University of Buffalo Bulls upsetting Arizona for it's first-ever NCAA tournament win;
  •  
  • PP Dan Matthews - in celebration of his mother-in-law, Betty Frank, being in attendance and in thanks for his wife, Suzette, for keeping the announcements lively.
Rotarian Mike Brown introduced the March Character Champs, Jalen Turner and Isabelle Oles. (*See story above).
 
Vice President Mark Rojek then took to the podium to bring members up to date on the Rotarian of the Year. He also provided information regarding the upcoming Golf Committee Meeting scheduled for next Friday after the regular Rotary meeting.
 
VP Mark then introduced March Speaker Chair Jeff Scott and Speaker Canton Rotarian Gary Sirak. Gary is the author of "The American Dream Revisited".
 
Vice President Mark then concluded the meeting with the following announcements:
  • next week's meeting will be speaker Jin Stearns, an author and life coach, speaking on "Lost Seoul";
  • there will be a golf committee meeting after our regular meeting next week.
The following Rotarian mailed in makeups to the Rotary office: PDG/PP Bob Pattison (9 makeups from Florida).
 
The following Rotarian turned in makeups to the Rotary office: Robert K. Matthews (7 makeups from Florida).
 
The following Rotarians will receive a makeup for attending the New Member Orientation Meeting on March 16, 2018: PP Rick Taylor, PP Tom Clevenger, Gary Sirak and Rich Dever.
