At our Zoom meeting on April 16, 2021, President Drew Pelger opened the meeting by welcoming a total of 35 Canton Rotarians (live at John's Bar and also via Zoom), as well as our guest speaker, Anthony Garofalo, and guests, Alice Barkan, wife of PP Jack Barkan, and Ken Griffin, guest of Sam Shaheen.

Interesting historical facts for the day:
  • 1900 – US Post Office issues 1st books of postage stamps.
  • 1940 – Cleveland Indians pitcher Bob Feller hurls the first and only Opening Day no-hitter in MLB history.
  • 1962 – Walter Cronkite begins anchoring the Evening News.
  • 1983 – Baseball legend, Steve Garvey, sets a National League record by playing 1118 consecutive games.
  • 1993 – Jury reaches a guilty verdict against the two police officers in the Rodney King beating.
  • 2020 - 22 million Americans file for unemployment in 4 weeks, wiping out 9 1/2 years of job gains.

Rotary became bilingual in 1916 when the first club was organized in a non-English-speaking country-- the club in Havana, Cuba.

President Drew announced that  he was a guest on Derek Gordon's podcast, What's Up Stark?, last week at BW-3 and consumed a half dozen Blazing Hot wings, paying off his bet with the Massillon Rotary Club on the outcome of the Bulldogs/Tigers football game.
