President Tori Atwell Greeting:  Good Afternoon and welcome to the Rotary Club of Mountain View where: We’re More Than A Club…We’re a Family!!!   Our International call to action for 2023-2024 is “Create Hope in the World.”  Our club’s call to action is “Help locally and have fun.”

Pledge of Allegiance: Led by Heather

Greeter & Thought for the Day: Judy Crates  “Working hard for something we don’t care about is stress. Working hard for something we love is called passion.” Simon Sinek Inspirational speaker and business leader. This quote reminds us of our passion for service and how working hard on something we love is positive and fulfilling.

Introduction of Visitors:  

Tori showed us the Award from Mountain View Los Altos High School District for our work.

General Club Announcements: 

  • Crab Feed, Saturday, Feb. 3

Misc. Updates

  • Thanks to Nellie for the January programs. Judy is February.  We are looking for someone for April. 

  • Bill on the Crab Feed. All tickets distributed. If you need more, let Bill know. Final count needed next week. No meeting next week, expect an email verification.. Team is meeting tomorrow night at Tori’s office. Please sign up. We have a softball team to volunteer. Tomorrow we will find the holes.

  • Next Tuesday is our social.

  • City of MV allowed us time to clean up Steven’s Creek Trail.

  • Tom: Los Altos Rotary invited us to the Lunar New Year. Those going, let Tom know.

SPEAKER: 

Nellie Meyer introduced Suzanne Woolfolk, Administrator, who spoke on Alternative Educational Options in MVLA High School District.

  • Alternative options have in common

    • Smaller learning environments

    • Unique Focus

    • Special student/staff community

    • Low student to teacher ratio

    • Teachers as mentors/advisors/counselors.

  1. Freestyle Academy Juniors and Seniors - art, design film, media, etc. with some classes at MVHS.

  2. Middle College - At Krause Center Foothill College with 2 high school classes and 2 Foothill classes. All day at Foothill. Small community feel.

  3. College Now - newer 100% college credits but also want to graduate high school - Juniors and Seniors. Not an emphasis on community.

  4. Alta Vista High School - MV and Palo Alto Unified, sophomores-seniors. Primarily for credit deficient students. College and career counseling.

  5. MVLA Summer School - June 11-25, 400-500 students. Also readiness for high school program.
